Flotilla 2016 - August 7th

Hello neighbors!

It’s time for Flotilla 2016!

You asked for it and now it’s back. The 2nd annual Long Lake Neighborhood Flotilla is coming Sunday August 7th.

Along with the Food Fun & Friendship we enjoyed last year, we are adding a new twist. To kick-off the event we are introducing the Long Lake Loop Challenge to be held at 11:30 am. This is the first-of-its-kind Micro-Triathlon focused on circumnavigating the perimeter of our beloved Long Lake. It will consist of a ¼ mile swim, a 1-mile bike ride and a ¾-mile walk/run/hike. Participants will begin from the shoreline at the base of Colonial Drive and swim to the grassy shore between Aspen Road and Birch Road (where they will have previously left their bicycles) and ride down Lake Shore Drive and Lake View Drive (with a brief detour to Goldsmith & back) to the trail head for Long Lake Park at the end of Middlesex Drive. From there they will then run/walk/hike through Long Lake Park back to Colonial Drive where they began. This event is fun and is not about winning, but about enjoying our beautiful lake.

The food and boating part of the event will also begin at 11:30 am, continuing to 2:00 pm. You can bring a picnic on your boat, and/or enjoy food from Steve Putnam’s platform boat (likely serving complementary burgers and dogs on the grill). We will also supply ice water. Please join us! Any type of boat will be welcome. Please let us know if you will be participating in the race so we know to expect you.

Thank you!
